WELCOMING
SPEECH AT THE OPENING OF THE GALLERY, MONGOLIAN ARTIST OTGONBAYAR
ERSHUU 2nd September 2022
Dear
friends, Distinguished
guests and business associates, Ladies and
Gentlemen,
It is my
great pleasure to represent the Embassy of Mongolia in Brussels at this
special occasion of opening the new Gallery of the COVA Art with the
exhibition of 'Hunnen', presenting the unique work of the Mongolian
Artist OtGO.
Artist OtGO
has an impressive list of achievements in Mongolia as well as outside
of the country. The unique life of Mongolian nomads, the techniques of
painting micro-miniatures, and his contemporary thinking attract the
interest of researchers and academic institutions. He became a cultural
ambassador of Mongolian people to the world and embodies a young
generation which respects its tradition in a contemporary manner.
It is also
remarkable that there are already many international scientific studies
on his work. Such an interest in the creations of an artist usually
only develops with older or already deceased artists. Artist OtGO and
his artistic work deserves international success and admiration.
As an
exemplary representative of Mongolians, we are very proud of him and
inspired by his artistic work and collections shown at this occasion
and would like to wish every success on his future
endeavours.
Taking this
opportunity, I would also like to welcome OtGO to this beautiful city
of Eindhoven and wish a successful accomplishment to this opening
event.
I would
also like to express our appreciation to Mr. Roy Covalenco, the owner
of the COVA Art Gallery for his effort and support in organizing this
occasion as a mediator of culture between Mongolia and the Kingdom of
the Netherlands.
I wish you
all the best and success.
Thank you
for attention.

PRESS
RELEASE From September 2
to October 10, 2022, COVA Art Gallery organizes the exhibition 'Hunnen', a special occasion that
looks back on the life and work of OtGO
over the past ten years. From the deeply felt conviction that anyone
who is not yet familiar with the unique work of this artist should do
so as soon as possible, we are pleased to present here a short
introduction to OtGO's artistic journey so far. We would like to
introduce the Netherlands to a retrospective of the last 10 years on
the work and life of Otgonbayar Erschuu, also known as OtGO.
OtGO's work is
characterized by the strong representation of individual elements,
people, animals and nature that merge into one big story. Despite the
fact that the work consists of separate parts, the canvas looks like a
beautiful harmonious whole. An almost impenetrable web appears on the
canvas; a thicket of figuration and pictorial space that invites the
viewer to study the painting in detail. The eye can hardly capture
everything that can be discovered and new scenes constantly lead the
eye across the canvas. The vibrant colors and distance make the
artworks abstract at a glance, ultimately sucking you into the endless
organic whole of brightly colored people and animals, undulating like
the heaving grass of the endless Mongolian plain. OtGO's work tells the
story of man and nature in unity, something that Mongolian culture has
in it like no other.

ERSHUU Otgonbayar
Erschuu was born on January 18, 1981 in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of
Mongolia. The road he has traveled – both as a person and as an artist
– can be called downright special. After completing his training in
traditional Mongolian painting, he spent quite some time traveling from
place to place in the particularly vast country of Mongolia. In the
places he visited during this period, he worked as a painter and
restorer of historical works of art, the results of which quickly made
him known in his native country. Among the sites Otgonbayar visited
were Buddhist-Lamaist monasteries. This is where his research into the
iconography and historical techniques of miniature painting began, as
well as into the spiritual background strongly associated with it. OtGO
has become a cultural ambassador of its people in the world. He
embodies a young, global generation that respects regional traditions,
but operates internationally. A combination of Eastern and Western
traditions carefully merged.
For his work
OtGO received several prizes and awards. His works are in various
museums, institutions and private collections.
